In Episode 24 of "Live the Good Life", Host Aaron Diaz and guest John Paul LeCompte delve into Wine Aromas and why people smell wines....
My name is Aaron. I’m a father of two daughters and am married to the love of my life. I am a scientist by trade, 34 years and counting. To make this much easier, let me start by telling you who/what I am NOT. I am not an academically trained wine expert. I am not officially certified by any governing body or institute, nor am I a sommelier. I am not formally trained in wine tasting or wine making. However, I am a wine lover and I have the deepest respect and admiration for those who carry on the art, science and traditions of wine making and wine tasting. I love everything that wine brings to our lives. Great friends, stimulating conversations, memorable events and celebrations, spending time with family and enjoying the finest foods with amazing wines! Doesn’t that define “The Good Life”?
I am a man of many passions. I love music and enjoy playing the piano. When I’m drinking wine, nothing beats some good jazz or some classical Spanish guitar. I love me a nice Cigar. Some might call me a Cigar Aficionado. I love a smooth bourbon or a single malt scotch over rocks. Gourmet food is my vice. I especially enjoy the finest prime steaks with my wines. If you decide to delve deeper into this website, it will become obvious that I’m also a huge Dallas Cowboys fan. If you are not, please don’t let this deter your motivations to follow my page and engage with me as I search for the Good Life! Believe me, I have many friends who are NOT Cowboy fans.
While I have spent the majority of my life in Southeast Washington State, a good chunk of my early years and the bulk of my college life were spent in central California – Monterey Bay area and Santa Cruz. I currently live in Richland, Washington, smack in the middle of Washington State wine country.
While I have not learned to appreciate all forms of art, I consider myself a lover of wine-related art, and art that I’ve learned about through various wineries, wine-clubs, or other wine related activities. I really enjoy wine photography. My wife and I have captured some amazing views, but she is a true visionary when it comes to that! I love to entertain, especially when it involves wine and food! A perfect segue into my latest passion, WINE! You knew it was coming. At this point, my energy is focused primarily on red wines, including ports and fortified wines, but you will find that I will, at times, dabble in whites and dessert wines when the spirit moves me.
Enough about me, now I’d like to get to know all of you! My journeys, personal engagements and discussions typically revolve around wine, wine and food pairings, viticulture & enology, wine art & photography, wine tasting and reviews, and spreading my excitement and passion about wine to others. I am on a journey seeking out the Good Life! Come along. What do you have to lose? You will have a blast and you’ll be glad you did! Cheers!!!
